Starting and Precautions for Generator Sets in Cold Climates

In cold conditions with temperatures below 5°C, starting the unit can be challenging. Users can consider taking one or several of the following measures:

1. Use fuel and engine oil that are compatible with the ambient temperature.

2.Inject hot water at 60-80°C into the engine and add engine oil heated to around 40°C.

3.For electric starting, insulate the battery to ensure sufficient capacity.

4.Remove the air filter from the intake pipe and use a torch flame to heat the intake air.

5.After starting, operate at low speed for 10-20 minutes, gradually increasing to the specified RPM, and extend the idle warm-up time as needed until all parameters such as oil temperature and water temperature are normal before adding load gradually.

6.For diesel engines with open cooling systems, the inlet water temperature should not be lower than 5°C, and the engine oil temperature must be maintained above 40°C.

7.When stopping, unload the load first, then idle for 15 minutes until all temperatures have dropped before stopping. After half an hour of parking, release the cooling water.
